Service 856 is a trunk service linking both residential and industrial areas around Marsiling, Admiralty Road West, Senoko and Sembawang Rd to various MRT stations and transport nodes. It is also the sole public bus service serving sections of Admiralty Rd, Admiralty Rd West, and Woodlands North MRT.

With high demand from both residential and industrial sectors, nearly all buses deployed on the route are high-capacity double-deck buses.

During peak hours, Service 981 compliments the service by strengthening bus connections between Sembawang MRT/Int and industrial areas around Admiralty Road West and Senoko.

Service 856 also encounters high demand from cross-border commuters heading from Woodlands Int/Marsiling MRT to Woodlands Checkpoint. Although duplicated by Service 950 along this sector, Service 950 is often filled to capacity when departing Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange, especially during peak hours.

With the opening of Thomson-East Coast Line 1 on 31 January 2020, Service 856 was amended to serve Woodlands North MRT Station along Woodlands North Coast Road in both directions (towards Yishun and towards Woodlands). Commuters should check the destination displayed on the bus Electronic Display Sign when boarding at Woodlands North.

    856 weekdays 14A/P 9S
    Peak hours supplements came from 169,854,857,966 including A & B variants.
    Peak hours up to 31 buses.

    3-Doors still exists mostly during peak hours,Today 21/2 got 3 during PM peak.

    LTA should introduce weekdays peak hour 856M using both single decker running from 0635-0915 from Yishun looping at Woodlands North MRT and from 1645-1935 from Woodlands looping at Woodlands North MRT.
    Frequency Am peak should be between 12 to 15 mins and 10 to 13 mins during PM peak.

      No. They are deployed on 801, 854 or 857.

      Only 1 that it from the sole split duty of 854.3 doors mostly deployed on 963 & 969 for Woodlands side,883 for Sembawang and 854 and 857 for Yishun side.
