Service 859 is a residential trunk route linking many parts of Sembawang Estate with Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations, as well as various neighbourhood amenities. It is one of few bus routes to serve residents within the small Sembawang estate. By making one round around the Sembawang estate before terminating at Sembawang Int, passengers can board the bus at to appropriate bus stops along Sembawang Drive or Sembawang Vista if they intend to head towards Yishun directly.
On 17 Aug 2014, two new supplementary short trip services, Services 859A and 859B, were introduced under the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) to operate on a full day basis. As a result, early morning downroutes from Sembawang Vista (Blk 309) ceased to operate. The previous Service 859A was a short trip service terminating at Opp Blk 315, Sembawang Vista (outside Sembawang Interchange), which operated from 12:00am to 12:50am, after the last bus of Service 859 towards Yishun has departed.
Double-deck buses were introduced to the route on 23 December 2018.

The 859 bus is sooooooo slow in the morning! I get on from blk 311 and it takes almost 25min to blk 482. I’m always late even I start off at 6:40 from home!
This service really needs DDs on weekdays especially during peak hours!
WLBP services 858 and 859 uses MAN A22s along with the SG plated citaros, can update fleet
