Construction

On 12 July 2019, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) called a tender for Proposed Design and Construction of Bus Interchange & Associated Works at Venture Drive (Reference PT375), which was scheduled for completion by 2023. The contract was awarded to Tat Hin Builders Pte Ltd on 16 March 2020 for a sum of $19.73 million.

The new bus interchange would serve to boost the public transport network in Jurong East as part of the wider Jurong Lake District, envisioned as the second Central Business District in Singapore. Increased human traffic in the area, brought about by the planned High-Speed Rail station (cancelled indefinitely) and future commercial and residential developments, necessitated a new bus interchange to spread out passenger numbers and avoid heavy congestion at a single bus interchange.

Bus interchanges in Jurong East have undergone several changes since the first interchange opened in 1985 and closed in 2011, moving to a temporary interchange nearby. The site of the old interchange was expected to be redeveloped into a new Integrated Transport Hub (ITH), but a change of plans ensued that would relocate the ITH to a new MOT-LTA building located at the site of the temporary interchange. A new interim Jurong East Bus Interchange, which opened in 2020 and replaced the first temporary interchange, was too small to accommodate all existing bus services and resulted in Bus Service 78 having to terminate at Jurong Gateway Road, with layovers performed at Ulu Pandan Bus Depot (and dead mileage incurred as a result), as well as Service 79 amended to start from Boon Lay Int and loop at Jurong Gateway Road.

While the Jurong Town Hall Bus Interchange opened on 26 November 2023, the ITH at Jurong Gateway Road is projected for completion in 2027.

I believe the Jurong Island and Causeway Link services will be relocated to the new Venture Drive Bus Interchange as it seems like LTA is inclined to have only local public bus services serving the ITH.

Probably Venture Drive Int is mainly for CW & JI services plus a few long distance service that will be cut terminating there

I don’t really know how LTA planning is but it sure wasted more resources…They should just built a temporary underground interchange with more parking lots

Tampines concourse will surely close down when Tampines North is ready..The site is reserved for future housing.
Sengkang & Compassvale int should renamed to Sengkang 1 & 2.

So messy. Why they don’t want to just relocate Jurong East Bus Interchange to Chinese Garden MRT Station, where they can build one big bus interchange, rather than having two bus interchanges at Jurong East which is very messy?

Its not messy. In fact, other districts have 2 interchanges close by as well. To name them they are:

Tampines – Tampines Interchange and Tampines Concourse Interchange

Sengkang – Sengkang Interchange and Compassvale Interchange

So far AMK and YCK are the most ideal locations for having more than one bus station in the same estate. Perhaps LTA should rethink what it did to Hougang South.

The whole point of having two interchanges is to spread the load on the interchanges out. Having a big terminal also means that to walk from one end of the terminal to the other can take a fair bit of time, and there would have to be a ridiculous amount of alighting berths to avoid spilling out waiting buses onto the roads.
