Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub – Bus Service Amendments

With the opening of the Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) from Monday, 04 September 2017, many bus routes are affected by route amendments and change in bus stopping points. The following table sums up the changes to bus services affected by route amendments.

Most bus services calling at Bukit Panjang Temporary Bus Park will be moved to the new ITH, with the exception of Bus Services 75184 and 700/A, which will remain at the temporary bus park.

With the opening of the interchange, Bus stop 44851 (Bt Panjang Stn) along Petir Road will be abolished, with Service 180 and 983 relocated to bus stops along Upp Bt Timah Rd. Following the amendment of Service 972, Bus stop 44401 (Opp Blk 183) along Bt Panjang Rd will also be abolished.

Routes passing through Bukit Panjang, such as Services 171, 177, 180, 960, 963, 963E, 963R, 971E and 983, will see some changes in bus stops served around Jelebu Road and Upp Bukit Timah Rd.

More information can be found within the following sections.

Section I

Bus services terminating at Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (ITH)

Bus Services 176920922970972973975979 and 979M will be amended to terminate at the new Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) at Hillion Mall / Hillion Residences.

Commuters should take note that only a handful of services call at the bus stop pair along Jelebu Rd outside Bukit Panjang Plaza (C1 / C2). In addition, Service 979 / 979M’s former terminating point along Bukit Panjang Rd (D3) will be used as an enroute stop for buses heading towards Yew Tee / Choa Chu Kang Cres. Towards Bt Panjang, Service 979 / 979M continues to call at Upp Bt Timah Rd (A3) before entering Bt Panjang ITH.

Service 970’s stop along Bukit Panjang Rd (D1 / D4) and Upp Bt Timah Rd (A1 / A2) has been intentionally omitted for clarity. Also on the same day, Service 973 calls at three new bus stops: two along Dairy Farm Rd (near Dairy Farm Hts) and one along Upp Bt Timah Rd (Bef Hillview Stn Exit B).

Section II

Bus services remaining at Bukit Panjang Temporary Bus Park

Bus Services 75184700 and 700A will continue terminating at Bukit Panjang Temporary Bus Park along Woodlands Road.

In addition, Services 75 and 184 serve an additional pair of bus stops along Woodlands Rd (F1 / F2) outside Junction 10. Services 700 and 700A are not affected by any changes.

Section III

Bus services passing through Bukit Panjang

For bus services passing through Bukit Panjang, bus stops have been reassigned to ‘better manage traffic flow’ along Jelebu Road. In addition, the bus stop along Petir Rd outside Bukit Panjang LRT station (B1) is being removed.

Along Jelebu Rd, Service 177, 960, 963, 963E and 963R’s bus stops have been shifted to C3 / C4.  In addition, Service 171 will not stop along Jelebu Rd

Along Upp Bt Timah Rd, looping bus services 180 and 983 call at separate bus stops along Upp Bt Timah Rd (A1 and A3 respectively).

Finally, the route of Service 971E will be truncated at Bukit Panjang Ring Rd near Senja LRT station (E1 / E2) and no longer serve Jelebu Rd.

 Comments

With respect to bus amendments along the dual-carriageway Jelebu Road, the LTA has adjusted the stopping point for many services to better manage traffic flow. For instance, most bus services previously calling at Bus Stop C1 along Jelebu Road (Opp Bt Panjang Plaza) have been reassigned to other bus stops to prevent congestion, as many buses require that stretch of road to exit the interchange smoothly.

In addition, Bus Stop C3 along Jelebu Road is also a cause for concern as bus services right turning from Petir Road (i.e. 75, 960, 963, 963E, 963R) will be forced to filter left to reach the bus stop, merging into a slip road used by cars turning left from Petir Road.

The arrangement to allow Service 920 and 922 to call at Bus Stop C1 (Opp Bt Panjang Plaza) but not Service 972 is slightly unusual and is likely aimed at reducing congestion. In addition, Service 75 and 184 have been allowed to serve Bus Stops F1 and F2 along Woodlands Road (Ten Mile Junction Stn) but not Service 700 and 700A.

Finally, Service 171 skipping Jelebu Road entirely will likely be unpopular with many commuters as it is a trunk route to Yishun and Bukit Timah, and commuters will be forced to take the bus from Bukit Panjang Road instead. Coupled with the move to shift Service 171’s bus stop from D3 to D4 during the DTL2 Route Amendments, commuters in Bukit Panjang will find it more difficult to reach Service 171 in the future.

One of the failed big time Interchange LTA has built.Too narrow and too congested,BCs have to go rounds before allocated to a parking lots..Many short distance BCs either have their meal breaks shortened or even bypass just because of the congestion.CCK & BPJ is the worst Interchange in terms of size. What LTA need to do is to relocate service 973,975 to Gali Batu and passingby outside the ITH.

Should make 180 & 976 start at Gali Batu passingby the ITH and 75 should start at the ITH instead

    For my Opinion,
Service 75, 184, 700 & 700A won’t be terminates at New Bus Hub as it may causes overhaul during Peak Hour so that the interchange wont be over crowded in old days. Those Services may wait the New Gali Batu Bus Terminal to be Open in Year 2019 and in Bukit Panjang there have a new exit coming out from the Downtown Line to Block 604 Bus Stop, it will be even more convenience for the commuters to take their suitable Services to their destinations.

As i know TTS Service 177 and SMRT Bus Service 180, wont be looping at Bukit Panjang Interchange as this is the solutions for the bus operators to convert to a loop at Petir Road so that Commuters wont be squeezing in New Hub in Peak Hour.

Well done of the Summary route change diagram and right to the point on those comments.

    My comments:
    a) Since they are not planning to let 171 & 983 stop along Jebelu Road, might as well as amend both services to take Gangsa Road then Bukit Panjang Road. *180 continue to express along Jebelu Road

    b) It will be more interesting if 960 can take Senja Way – Senja Road – BP Ring Ring – Jebelu Rd, since 75 & 184 got Junction 10 covered. Alternatively, amend 75 to take the above route and terminated at temporary Interchange.

What will happen to services 177 and 180 then? Will 180 join the other three services at a new interchange / terminal? Service 177 is already given to Tower Transit.
