Express Bus Service 167e was a Limited-stop Express Bus Service which offered quicker journeys for commuters at Sembawang MRT, Canberra Road and Sembawang Road, linking them with the Central areas of Newton, Orchard, Bras Basah, Raffles Place and Shenton Way. Operating at selected hours on weekdays, except public holidays, it only calls at selected bus stops served by its parent Bus Service 167, and charges Express Fares as a result. Buses layover at Shenton Way Bus Terminal.

In between Sembawang Road and Newton, the bus plies an express sector along the Seletar Expressway (SLE), Central Expressway (CTE) and Moulmein Road in both directions. The route operates at 20-minute intervals during peak hours and at 30-minute intervals off peak.

When introduced on 25 November 2018, Express 167e was the ninth new route to be introduced under the Bus Contracting Model (BCM) after Express 960e, as well as the fifth limited-stop service to operate daily (after 12e, 147e, 851e and 960e).

Service Reduction & Withdrawal

Along with several other express services, operating hours for Express 167e was revised from 9 February 2020, only operating on Weekdays, except Public Holidays. In addition, trips from Sembawang Bus Interchange would operate till 6:30 pm, while trips from Anson Road only start operations at 12:30 pm.

After over 2 years of operations, Express 167e was withdrawn on 14 December 2020 due to low demand. The last trips on 11 December 2020 were performed by SMB1517E (towards Shenton Way, departing 1830hrs) and SMB302P (towards Sembawang, departing 2330hrs).

The bus route was first revealed in LTA’s “Hacks to Travel Smart” poster at Sembawang MRT Station in July 2018, which stated “Trunk Bus 167e” as an alternative for a more comfortable commute to the city.

167e Express – faster journey, shorter time to destination ?
Not true ! It take almost same time with normal 167
Reason : always found bus driver stopping n stay at each / most bus stop for 2 to 5 mins for nothing, dragging & wasting the time before moving the next stop ! Why ?
Express ? Cost more and wasting time for nothing!

Honestly, after taking service 167e for countless times, I realized that this service should skip Newton Road (Newton MRT), Scotts Road (Orchard MRT) and Orchard Road (Somerset MRT). This service should ply Buyong Road once out from the CTE and turn to Dhoby Ghaut station directly. This applies for both directions.

Trust me, by doing so, it saves a whole lot of time. If you were to take this Express service especially during peak hours, you will realize that it waste a lot of time at Orchard area given the heavy traffic congestions. It makes no difference as compared to the parent service 167. And some bus captains tend to drive slowly along the stretch of Orchard Road all the way leading to Moulmein Road before entering the CTE.

Also, if this service operates at a 30 minutes interval, by driving at a constant speed, it is impossible to catch up with the front bus. Therefore, there is no need to slow down if the bus is punctual, as per schedule.

If only 167e should go around Sembawang neighborhood more than that will encourage more to take the bus instead of going direct to the station…

Useless comment and redundant stops. Once again, let me make clear of the fact that it is supposed to be an Express service, meaning, it SHOULD not go around the neighbourhood and only calls at major landmarks/main roads.
Crowds = delay the “express” people wanted. What for is the express for if its going to stop at every single stop and in the end save only 5 to 10 minutes?

If only 167 would go into sembawang stn (bus stop 58211), blk 357C (bs 58319), bet blks 415/416 (bs 58429) and blk 502A (bs 58119) before heading its usual 167 way. Then at least there more people boarding around sembawang rather than from the bus interchange itself . oh well, let see the crowd then….

167e are require to follow their parent route when it starts from sembawang. So if you want them to serve bus stop that is not from their parent route, trust me, 100% not going to happen.

Actually, from a foreigner’s view, i’ll say that the rt is a bit inefficient under its ‘express’ name.

Bus drivers like to drag time for no reason and the speed is so slow on highway as the other plaves in SG. Also, it via Orchard and Newton which i think that there are traffic congestions (which is quite normal for such a intersection of traffic flow coming from and going to different places). So, to lower the journey time, should it really skip the Newton part and dorectly go to CTE at the Chin Swee Part?
