Service 196 is a inter-town route connecting residents of Clementi, Dover, Bukit Merah, Mountbatten and Marine Parade to the City areas of Outram Park, Shenton Way and Nicoll Highway. The route experiences high demand throughout the day owing to inter-town connections, and is highest during the peak hours as a heavily-used route between Shenton Way and Marine Parade prior to the opening of the Thomson-East Coast Line Stage 4 in June 2024.
