The first stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line will open on 31 January 2020!
The first stage comprises TE1 Woodlands North, TE2NS9 Woodlands, TE3 Woodlands South stations, as well as Mandai Depot. The second stage of the TEL, consisting of six stations between Springleaf and Caldecott, is also expected to open later in 2020.
Free rides will be offered on the first 3 days of service, from 31 January to 2 February 2020. An open house will also be held on 11 January 2020 from 9am to 6pm.
The Thomson-East Coast Line is planned to be fully operational by 2024, connecting Woodlands North to Sungei Bedok. The line is also planned for extension to Tanah Merah, via Changi Airport and replacing the existing Changi Branch Line. (Read more at Changi Branch Line to become part of Thomson-East Coast Line)
Previously, the line was announced to open before Christmas 2019 by Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan during a visit to Bright Hill MRT station on 25 January 2019. It was further delayed to open before Chinese New Year 2020, and delayed once again to open on 31 January 2020.

Tell me why it was delayed.
Seriously? Should be open by this year and now delayed to January 2020. Why?

Seriously, there is no big deal as to whether TEL1 opens before Christmas this year or during the CNY festivities next year. It’s only one-month difference, it’s not like we can’t wait.
I can’t wait for the first stage of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) to be opened in end-January 2020.
Ooo… Two stages opening in 1 year. Sweet.
