Tengah Bus Interchange

Tengah Bus Interchange is an interim Bus Interchange with the Tengah New Town. It is bounded by Tengah Park Avenue, Tengah Boulevard, and the Parc Woods @ Tengah residential estate.

The interim bus interchange commenced operations on Sunday, 21 July 2024. This facility is not to be confused with the upcoming Tengah Integrated Transport Hub, which will be built at Tengah Town Centre, adjacent to Tengah MRT Station (Jurong Region Line).

Brief History

In December 2019, the construction tender for the bus interchange (Contract PT396 – Proposed Design and Construction of Bus Interchange and Associated Works at Tengah Boulevard) was put up by the Land Transport Authority. This contract was awarded to Tat Hin Builders Pte Ltd in October 2020. The location of the interchange was also indicated within Tengah town maps issued by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) in 2020.

Tengah Bus Interchange opened on Sunday, 21 July 2024. Bus Services 870 & 992, which were loop services, were extended to serve the new interchange and become bi-directional services. A new bus service, 871, was also introduced on the same day, connecting Tengah New Town with Bukit Gombak and Beauty World.

Tengah Bus Interchange has three alighting and six boarding berths, with vehicle access via a signalised intersection with Tengah Boulevard.

Future Plans

The interchange is likely to be an interim facility, as it is zoned for residential use under the URA Master Plan 2019. Another bus interchange is being built to serve Tengah New Town—Tengah Integrated Transport Hub—which is situated adjacent to Tengah MRT Station (Jurong Region Line) along Tengah Central.

In line with current LTA naming conventions, interim and/or temporary bus interchanges no longer carry the “Temporary” name.

There has been insider news regarding 2 bus services to be rolled out in the year 2027.

Service 164: Tengah Bus Interchange and Woodlands ITH
Meant to be a fast transport connection between Tengah and Woodlands, with routing from Bukit Batok Road > Brickland Road > KJE > Bukit Timah Expressway > Seletar Expressway > Woodlands Avenue 2

Service 171: Tengah Bus Interchange and Yishun ITH
Meant to provide direct connection from Tengah to Bukit Panjang (complementary to Bus Service 180), gets extended from Bukit Panjang loop, to ply along Choa Chu Kang Road > Bukit Batok Road > Tengah Park Avenue

Apparently these plans will be slowly rolled out after the residents move into Parc Meadow in Q1 and Q2 for the year 2027, to justify demand from Tengah estate.

Probably after the JRL-duplicating bus routes (870 and 874) are removed after the JRL opens in 2028.

Cuz, there’s a possibility that the capacity at Tengah Bus Interchange and Bulim Bus Depot already allocate finish. No more space for any more bus route.

Wait until those 2 bus routes removed, then we talk about introducing 2 new bus routes.

There are about 2 new areas in Tengah going to open. One at Tengah Park (near the bus interchange), and one at Tengah Plantation (near the future Tengah Park station, seriously that station name should change to Bukit Batok Road station to avoid confusion). Nonetheless, just an amendment of existing bus routes will do.

if 164 and 171 are true. it would be a very gd news. 164 may also become the first dual depot operated service from tower transit if Tower transit is given to run this route. can split between bulim and mandai.

I thought 171’s planned extension to Tengah was shelved supposedly because of 984’s introduction? Now they’re reviving the plans?

If the insider info is true then damn, Tengah residents are really getting pampered with all these new services. The perks of having transport minister Jeffrey Siow in your GRC I guess.

Also looks like Tengah Int will already be at max capacity next year, with 15 service in total.
