New CRRC Double-Decker Bus spotted in Singapore

A new electric double-decker bus produced by CRRC and bodied by Gemilang Coachworks was spotted in Singapore on 6 October 2024.

The bus bears a Lush Green livery and advertising wrap for Agil Drivesafe+, an Advanced Driver Assistance System produced by ST Engineering.

The bus is likely destined for trials with the Land Transport Authority (LTA), in line with its vision of a 100% cleaner energy public bus fleet by 2040. The bus features 3-doors and 2-staircases, following the likes of 100 Three-door Double-Decker Buses procured by LTA in 2019.

In recent years, there has been a notable increase in electric trial buses offered to the LTA by various manufacturers. This reflects a shift from predominantly single-deck electric buses to a growing trend of electric double-deck models, including the CRRC bus and the Zhongtong LCK6126EVGS. Additionally, mirrorless buses—utilizing camera-based mirror systems—are gaining traction, similar to the latest orders from LTA for  BYD and Zhongtong buses under Contract PT601, highlighting innovative advancements in bus design and technology.

The bus is also likely to be featured at the upcoming Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition in November 2024, as hinted by the full-body advertisement wrap for its Agil Drivesafe+ advanced driver assistance system.

Earlier this month, a similar CRRC double-decker bus was launched at the Bus and Coach Annual Conference in Auckland, destined for New Zealand’s The Tranzit Group.

Not enough buses for now especially with BCEP. Hence K230UBs stay back to support expansion.

The effectiveness of 3D2S double deckers cannot be compared with bendy buses… Solid fact.

Don’t understand why Gemilang love to place the third door nearer to the third axles stripe leaving only a finger gap just like the A95 3-doors.

I think for this bus its because of the battery thats right next to the 3rd door so if they move it more back the 3rd door would be smaller. And for the man a95 3 door, the door must be closer to the 3rd wheel due to the slope of the overhang (even though its this sloped the overhang always almost scrape the road in a bump

Singapore is like the only city outside China that is mass purchasing electric buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.

And probably the only city in the world that will be mass purchasing electric double decker buses and mass deploying them on public bus routes so far.

Do correct me if I am wrong.
