The interchange has two vehicular concourse areas, North and South. The North concourse features five sawtooth berths, two of which are used for alighting and the remaining three for boarding, with queuing lanes installed. Buses park at a bus park opposite the passenger concourse, and separate ingress and egress lanes lead to Bukit Batok Central.

The South concourse features fifteen end-on berths, which are shared among five bus services. Two end-on berths are reserved for wheelchair boarding and alighting. A combined ingress and egress lane cuts underneath the interchange and leads to a junction with Bukit Batok Central. Both concourses are able to accommodate double-deck buses.

The interchange concourse has pedestrian entrance/exits located on the East edge (towards Blocks 633/634) and the West edge (towards Block 630 and sheltered walkway to Bukit Batok MRT) .

In 2015-2016 Addition & Alteration Works at Bukit Batok Bus Interchange (Contract PT229) were carried out by Espirit Building & Engineering Pte. Ltd. for S$1.16 million. Works included the construction of new offices beside the alighting berth, renovation of existing infrastructure, the installation of new halogen lighting and wall fans for the concourse area, and repainting of the entire interchange building.

Historical Background

Bukit Batok Bus Interchange commenced operations on Sunday, 27 September 1987. Then, it was managed by Singapore Bus Services (SBS), which operated four feeder bus services 361, 365, 366 and 367, in addition to existing Services 61, 106, 122, 179 and 189. The interchange was also designed to accommodate double-decker buses, and took over operations from a temporary roadside bus terminal along Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 since 1984.

In 2000, the Government announced that Trans Island Bus Services (TIBS) area of responsibilities were being extended to Bukit Batok. As such, operations at Bukit Batok Interchange were progressively handed over from SBS to TIBS as such:

  • 18 Jun 2000: Services 77, 189, 361, 365, 367
  • 03 Sep 2000: Service 61
  • 24 Dec 2000: Services 106 and 173

In May 2003, feeder services 361, 365 and 367 were renumbered to 941, 945 and 947.

As part of the transition to the Bus Contracting Model, Bukit Batok Interchange was allocated under the Bulim Bus Package. As such, from 28 May 2016, the interchange was operated and maintained by new operator Tower Transit, who took over all bus services except for 61 and 852. In August 2017, Feeder Bus Service 944 was introduced but operated by SMRT Buses.

@Alan Lim, I can’t seem to reply to your post.

Either way, I would still prefer feeder bus (or inter-town buses) from CCK/Bukit Panjang to serve Hillview Rise/Hume Ave area.

I still stand by my point that withdrawing 173 will not serve Bukit Batok Ave 1/Street 21/East Ave 4 residents well as 963 would be very crowded in the peak hours in east ave 4, assuming some of them needing to take Downtown Line. If 992 were to fully replace 173 in Ave 1 and Street 21, 992 would be moderately to slightly heavy crowded during peak hours assuming Tengah residents would also want to take buses to Downtown line (as the line doesn’t go there). And I would love to have Bukit Timah Primary School to be served by a bus, preferably 173 as students living in Bukit Batok/Bukit Timah are already familiarised themselves with the bus service. Withdrawing the bus won’t do the school and their students any favour as the nearest bus stop would be 7 minutes away. 173 would bring them directly in front of the gate.

Bukit Batok East Ave 6 already served by 61 and 852 from Bukit Batok interchange and as well as Beauty World station and King’s Albert Park station. Entire stretch of Hillview Ave already served by 963 (to Hillview station) and 173 (to Beauty World and potentially calling one at upcoming Hume Station). And in Tengah, 992 already shared the same bus stops as 871 (in Tengah area), no point duplicating if both services ended up serving Downtown Line as their end goal (with 871 headed towards Beauty World).

    In short:
    – 992 would preferably extended deep into Tengah when Tengah gets more developed while it still terminates between Tengah interchange and Bukit Batok interchange. Some residents in Bukit Batok New Town (and some Tengah residents at the moment) would prefer to go to Bukit Batok Interchange instead of stopping outside of the (Bukit Batok) interchange (less walking).
    – Brand new Intra-town bus (971) from Bukit Panjang to Eng Neo Ave (loop) via Cashew Road, Hillview Rise, Bukit Batok East Ave 2, Bukit Batok East Ave 3, Bukit Batok Street 25, Jalan Jurong Kechil (After PIE Exit), Dunearn Road. Alternatively, it could end/loop around Linden Drive/Vanda Road instead of looping at Eng Neo Ave for slightly longer journey.
    – Feeder bus (308) from Bukit Panjang to Hillview Rise could work too.
