The Interchange:

Bukit Batok Bus Interchange is a bus station located in the residential town of Bukit Batok. Connecting with Bukit Batok MRT Station along the North-South MRT Line, the interchange is a transport node for commuters heading in and out of town, allowing for convenient transfers between the rail network and the many bus services at the interchange.

Bukit Batok Bus Interchange - Concourse
Bukit Batok Bus Interchange – Concourse

The interchange has two vehicular concourse areas, North and South. The North concourse features five sawtooth berths, two of which are used for alighting and the remaining three for boarding, with queuing lanes installed. Buses park at a bus park opposite the passenger concourse, and separate ingress and egress lanes lead to Bukit Batok Central.

The South concourse features fifteen end-on berths, which are shared among five bus services. Two end-on berths are reserved for wheelchair boarding and alighting. A combined ingress and egress lane cuts underneath the interchange and leads to a junction with Bukit Batok Central. Both concourses are able to accommodate double-deck buses.

The interchange concourse has pedestrian entrance/exits located on the East edge (towards Blocks 633/634) and the West edge (towards Block 630 and sheltered walkway to Bukit Batok MRT) .

In 2015-2016 Addition & Alteration Works at Bukit Batok Bus Interchange (Contract PT229) were carried out by Espirit Building & Engineering Pte. Ltd. for S$1.16 million. Works included the construction of new offices beside the alighting berth, renovation of existing infrastructure, the installation of new halogen lighting and wall fans for the concourse area, and repainting of the entire interchange building.

Historical Background

Bukit Batok Bus Interchange commenced operations on Sunday, 27 September 1987. Then, it was managed by Singapore Bus Services (SBS), which operated four feeder bus services 361, 365, 366 and 367, in addition to existing Services 61, 106, 122, 179 and 189. The interchange was also designed to accommodate double-decker buses, and took over operations from a temporary roadside bus terminal along Bukit Batok West Avenue 3 since 1984.

In 2000, the Government announced that Trans Island Bus Services (TIBS) area of responsibilities were being extended to Bukit Batok. As such, operations at Bukit Batok Interchange were progressively handed over from SBS to TIBS as such:

  • 18 Jun 2000: Services 77, 189, 361, 365, 367
  • 03 Sep 2000: Service 61
  • 24 Dec 2000: Services 106 and 173

In May 2003, feeder services 361, 365 and 367 were renumbered to 941, 945 and 947.

As part of the transition to the Bus Contracting Model, Bukit Batok Interchange was allocated under the Bulim Bus Package. As such, from 28 May 2016, the interchange was operated and maintained by new operator Tower Transit, who took over all bus services except for 61 and 852. In August 2017, Feeder Bus Service 944 was introduced but operated by SMRT Buses.

Interchange facilities:
  • Passenger Service Offices (Tower Transit + SMRT Buses)
  • Top Up Kiosk
  • Drivers lounge
  • NTWU Canteen
  • Boarding and alighting berths
  • Information boards & Bus arrival display screen
  • Service guide rack
  • Toilets

Tower Transit and SMRT Buses have Passenger Service Offices which are open throughout the day and handle commuter inquiries.

Here’s my suggestions, do comment ya!

    Feeder Svc 941
Bt Batok – Bt Batok Rd (Loop)

    Bt Batok via
Bt Batok Ctrl, Bt Batok Ave 1,
Bt Batok West Ave 6/8/9, Bt Batok Rd (Loop)

    Feeder Svc 944
Bt Batok – Hillview Rise (Loop)

    Bt Batok via
Bt Batok Ctrl, Bt Batok East Ave 6/St 21/Ave 4,
Hillview Ave, Jln Batu Nilam/Jln Remaja,
    Hillview Rise (Loop)

    – Withdraw of Service 173/173A from Bt Batok Sector.

    Feeder Svc 945
Bt Batok – Bt Batok St 34 (Loop)
    Remains unchanged

    Feeder Service 947
Bt Batok – Bt Batok Rd (Loop)

For 944, I don’t think your route suggestion would work.

Street 21, east ave 4 and Batu Nilam is already served by 173, East Ave 6 already served by 61 and 852, entire stretch of Hillview Ave already served by 173 and 963. 963 also serves East Ave 4.

If we withdraw 173 from Bukit Batok, we need to replace the service to give Bukit Batok Ave 1/Street 21/East Ave 4 residents to Downtown Line. There won’t be any buses on Ave 1 and Street 21 that serves any Downtown Line stations should we withdraw 173. And East ave 4 residents shouldn’t be relying solely on 963 (to Hillview Station) as the service can be very, very crowded during peak hours.

And under the assumption that there will be a brand new bus stop serving the upcoming Downtown Line station, Hume, 173 could be calling there (probably through the side exit). And it’s very important to give Bukit Batok Ave 1/Street 21/East Ave 4 residents the traveling option if they wish to travel along the blue line.

IMHO, Hillview Rise would be better served by a feeder bus from Bukit Panjang instead as it’s nearer by it’s geolocation.

        Thanks for your prompt response!

Maybe suggesting to replace Svc 992 to plys towards Bt Batok – Hume Ave and loops at Orchard.

Therefore, Svc 992 will start from Tengah towards Bt Batok/Hume and Orchard Rd.

I wouldn’t replace entirety of 992 either. Some parts of Bukit Batok new town are solely served by 992. And by replacing OG route with new route, you’re taking away Tengah residents the ability to go to Le Quest shopping mall and/or Bukit Batok polyclinic, as well as future primary school that would pop up in a few years time.

I would rather make entirely new inter-town bus from bukit batok to either woodlands or loops around Marsiling via Hume Ave/Hillview Ave.

Well. Thanks for responding. Maybe this will be better option and best route for Tengah and Bt Batok residents.

            Svc 992
Tengah – Bt Batok – Hume Ave – Hillview (Loop)

            Tengah via
            Tengah Blvd/Ave, Tengah Gdn Walk/Ave,
            Plantation Cres, Bt Batok Rd,
Bt Batok West Ave 5/8/6/3, Bt Batok Ctrl,
Bt Batok Ave 1, Bt Batok East Ave 6,
Bt Batok St 21, Bt Batok East Ave 4,
Hillview/Hume Ave, Upp Bt Timah Rd,
            Hillview Rd (Loop)

            – Withdraw of Service 173 and 173A.
            – Bus Frequency and Operating hours will be change.

First of all SERVICE 852 should be under Tower Transit (Since Both Bukit Batok and Yishun anchor operators are Tower Transit)

Bukit Batok should have 6 new services to connect more parts of Singapore

Go Ahead Service 1: Changi Village to Bukit Batok via Tampines, Circuit Road, Jalan Toa Payoh, Jalan Jurong Kechil
SMRT 430: Boon Lay to Bukit Batok(Loop) via PIE, Bukit Gombak
TTS 431: Bukit Batok to Bukit Merah via Bukit Batok East Avenue 2, Holland Road, Tanglin Road
SBST 437: Hougang Central to Bukit Batok via Ang Mo Kio, Upper Thomson, Lornie, Bukit Batok Street 21
GAS 439: Pasir Ris to Bukit Batok via Sengkang, YCK Road, CTE, Bukit Timah Road, Jalan Jurong Kechil
TTS 997 Bukit Batok to Sengkang via Bukit Batok East Avenue 2, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Buangkok Green

Hope TT will stay as the anchor here. They operated the interchange and service quite well compared to SMRT due to strict discipline and scheduling.
