3-Door Alexander Dennis Enviro500 buses launched on Service 969 & 969A

The Alexander Dennis Enviro500 3-Door bus has been launched recently on Tower Transit Bus Services 965, 969 & 969A in April 2022.

50 units of the Alexander Dennis Enviro500 (3 Door) double-deck bus, configured with three doors and two staircases for smoother boarding and alighting, has been procured by the Land Transport Authority in April 2019, alongside 50 3-door MAN A95 (Euro 6) buses.

All units completed registration in January 2022, with SBS Transit, Tower Transit & SMRT Buses operating 25, 20 & 5 buses respectively.

These buses are the first to feature a double glass-staircase design on both front and rear staircases, as visible on the right side of the bus.

Complementing the futuristic looks of the bus is a fully low-floor design on the lower-deck, making entering and exiting the bus very accessible.

These buses are the product of engineering efforts by Alexander Dennis Limited after the initial conception in 2016. The engine and drivetrain components had to be relocated to the right rear of the chassis in order for a full-low-floor design.

Registration of these buses began in September 2021, and these buses are currently with SBS Transit & SMRT Buses.

However, the bus broke down along Choa Chu Kang Drive towards Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal at about 1918hrs due to a fault with the middle door. The bus has since returned to service.

Agreed,Rather than waste money to buy 12.5m three door useless DD might as well buy 100 bendy buses.Exclusive for feeders and short trunks only.Design bus stops that is enough for 12m & 18m together..12.5/12.8m rigid is more swerve prone than a bendy.

They should have just get bendys instead… Too many units unserviceable due to poor specifications, not to mention the price of this bus is 1.5 times the amount of a normal double decker/bendy bus, extra few hundred thousand dollars of our taxpayer money just for an extra set of stairs and 3rd door which many people do not use. Bendy buses are definitely much better and is proven to perform well in transporting large number of people over short distance.

bendy buses take up too much space, don’t you know the reason?

Boarding and alighting is faster, so dwell time is shorter, so the bus stays at the bus stop for a shorter period of time compared to double deckers. So bendy buses actually take up less space in terms of time at bus stops. As for the depot, don’t forget that LTA is willing to let hundreds of storage buses hog up the space in the depot, and if LTA buy bendys, they will have no problems finding places to park them.

I think GAS & TTS Bulim might just lease a few units since 5 each of their B9TL go to SBST.

Unlikely. BULIM is now returning excess of buses to storage mainly due to operational cost.

As for GAS, those units are excess thanks to GAS leasing over 20+ MAN A95 3D2S.
