The MAN A95, also known as the MAN ND323F or ND363F, is a low-floor, three-axle city bus chassis offered by MAN Truck & Bus. Designed for the Asia Pacific right-hand-drive market, the MAN A95 is typically bodied as a double-deck bus, with units delivered to Singapore, Hong Kong, Australian and New Zealand public transport operators.
Most buses are bodied by Gemilang Coachworks in Malaysia, based on the MAN Lion’s City DD design which it manufactures under license.
First introduced locally in 2014 by SMRT Buses, a successful trial of the Euro V prototype bus (SMB5888H) led to the first bulk order of 16 units by SMRT in 2015. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) made subsequent bulk orders of another 60 and 122 Euro V units in two batches respectively, registered between 2016 and 2017, followed by 250 more Euro VI units, registered between 2018 and 2020. A final batch of 50 units was delivered in a three-door configuration.
In addition, a one-off concept bus (SG5999Z) was built for public showcase. It entered passenger service in 2017, first trialled with Tower Transit and subsequently with SBS Transit.
Under the Bus Contracting Model, MAN A95 buses are leased to SBS Transit, SMRT Buses, Go-Ahead Singapore, and Tower Transit.

Type Information:
The MAN A95 is a three-axle bus chassis adapted from the MAN Lion’s City range of city buses, which were previously only available with integral bodywork by MAN. As of 2020, most of these were bodied as double-deck buses, built by Gemilang Coachworks.
While the original MAN Lion’s City DD product (type designation: MAN A39) is a 13.73-metre left-hand drive (LHD) integral bus, the A95 is a right-hand drive (RHD) bus chassis shortened to 12 metres, and without room for a third door located at the rear overhang (although LHD units were later produced). Both the MAN A39 integral bus and the MAN A95 with the similar Lion’s City-inspired bodywork design can be referred to as the MAN Lion’s City DD.
All MAN A95 units operating in Singapore are of the ND323F make. The model number is broken down as follows:
- N: Low-floor bus (German: Niederflur)
- D: Double-deck bus (German: Doppeldeckerbus)
- xx: Power output in hp (rounded to nearest ten) – 320hp for A95 buses in Singapore.
- 3: Third generation
- F: Produced as a chassis (German: Fahrgestell); to be fitted with external bodywork
Outside of Singapore, some bus operators have opted for the 360hp engine for the MAN A95, hence the model ND363F. The chassis designation (A95) stays the same.
The first known unit in the world was trialled by SMRT Buses in 2014, at the request of MAN. While most MAN A95 buses were bodied as double-deck buses, several single-deck examples have been made for the New Zealand market. The chassis model (ND323F or ND363F) remain the same, despite the single-deck configuration.

Chassis layout:
The MAN A95 is powered by the MAN D2066 LUH inline engine, with the middle axle as the drive axle. The engine and transmission units are mounted longitudinally on the rear left of the vehicle and connected to the drive axle (ZF AV 133) via a laterally-offset driveshaft, which does not interfere with the middle passenger aisle. Typical for low-floor buses, both rear axles are inverted portal axles, which allow for the bus’ full-low-floor layout and thus improving passenger access. The rearmost axle (or trailing axle) can be fitted with a rear-axle steering (RAS) system for improved cornering ability.
Chassis are available in 12 to 12.8-metre lengths (double deck) or 12 to 13.5-metre lengths (single deck). The MAN A95 was initially offered in right-hand-drive, but a left-hand-drive version was produced for Dubai orders.
Powertrain:
When the MAN A95 was launched, it came with the MAN D2066 LUH engine, in two power output options (320 and 360 horsepower). To achieve the Euro V emission standard, the engine uses Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology and MAN’s own PM-Kat® exhaust treatment system, which contains a diesel oxidation catalyst and a particle filter.
Starting in 2017, Euro VI engines were offered with the MAN A95. An updated variant of the MAN D2066 engine was offered in two power output options (320 and 360 horsepower). These engines combine the EGR process with MAN’s SCRT exhaust treatment system, which contains a diesel oxidation catalyst, particle filter, and the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) process to further reduce emissions.

Similar to other MAN urban buses, the ND323F chassis is manufactured and assembled in Salzgitter, Germany, with engines produced in Nuremberg.
As for transmission options, the MAN A95 offers the ZF EcoLife 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, with an integrated hydraulic retarder. Voith DIWA transmissions are also available as an option.
Bodywork:
Most MAN A95 buses in the world are bodied by Gemilang Coachworks of Malaysia, which has a long history of building city buses on MAN bus chassis, mainly for the Asia Pacific market. The MAN Lion’s City DD bodywork is manufactured by Gemilang under a design license which mirrors the appearance of the MAN Lion’s City DD integral product.
The MAN Lion’s City DD bodywork fitted to Singapore MAN A95 buses underwent several design iterations. There are no known official terms to distinguish these bodywork types, so this website uses the following characterization for bodywork types:

Gemilang Coachworks builds these buses using the EcoRange lightweight aluminium bus body structure developed by Constellium. By using aluminium extrusions and composite elements designed for ease of assembly, the overall cost of production is reduced (via lower labour and tooling costs). In addition, aluminium is corrosion-resistant, and the lightweight body benefits fuel economy over the bus’ lifespan.
Apart from Gemilang, New Zealand bodybuilder Designline has also produced double-deck MAN A95 buses (for GoBus Hamilton).
Single-deck MAN A95 buses (stretched to >13m) have been produced by Gemilang Coachworks (for Go Bus Transport), and Australian manufacturer Bustech (Bustech VST 13.5m body, for SkyBus), both for the New Zealand market.
Markets:
The MAN A95 indicates MAN’s renewed interest in entering the right-hand drive market for double-decker bus chassis, which is particularly strong in the Asia Pacific region. A previous attempt at one such chassis, the MAN 24.310 model built for the Hong Kong market (around Year 2000) had seen weak sales, with under 50 units being purchased and put into service.
With Hong Kong being a large market for RHD double-deck buses, MAN A95 buses found their way into the fleets of Franchised bus companies Kowloon Motor Bus, New World First Bus, and New Lantau Bus Co., with buses delivered in 2015. The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Shuttle also ordered the MAN A95, delivered in 2018. Additionally, open-top MAN A95 units saw service with private operators as sightseeing buses. Despite these successes, sales of the MAN A95 were not strong enough to gain a foothold over more established double-deck bus brands in Hong Kong, such as Alexander Dennis Limited and Volvo.
However, the MAN A95 saw strong success in Singapore with large numbers of orders placed by LTA, both directly and through participating in a tendering process via its local importer, ST Engineering Land Systems.
In Australia, the State Transit Authority of New South Wales also purchased MAN A95 buses for Sydney’s B-Line, a bus rapid transit network that opened in 2017. Private operator Forest Coach Lines​ also procured MAN A95 buses. In New Zealand, GO Bus and Skybus​ have also procured MAN A95 buses as single-deck buses.

In 2014, SMRT Buses brought in a MAN A95Â demonstrator unit for road testing and evaluation from MAN’s local dealer, ST Kinetics. The bus bore SMRT’s new pixel livery and the registration SMB5888H, registered on 01 October 2014.

SMRT first announced its purchase of 201 new double-deck buses in March 2014. Following the large intake of Alexander Dennis Enviro500 units, SMB5888H is the second model of double-deck bus brought in by SMRT, with a single unit brought in for evaluation purposes. The first announcement was made on SMRT’s official Facebook page on 25 September 2014, reporting that the bus was brought in for a trial at the manufacturer’s request, for a year. This was part of SMRT’s ongoing effort to test out new bus models.
The bus featured Ster NewCity seats (similar to SBS7777Y), leaf doors (entrance) and sliding plug doors (exit) supplied by Masats, and adjustable ball-type air-conditioning vents. Electronic Destination Signage (EDS) was supplied by Aesys Libra (fitted with an Aesys KC640-USB controller), a new addition to the standard models of EDS units used on SMRT buses. It was replaced by a conventional Mobitec MobiLED unit in May 2016, in standardisation with the production batch MAN A95 buses.
Revenue service
SMB5888H made its revenue service debut on 5 November 2014, appearing on Service 190. In 2016, SMB5888H was transferred to Ang Mo Kio Depot, where it was allocated to Service 169 from 2016 to 2018, and then redeployed to Service 854 in 2018.
In September 2021, it was transferred to Tower Transit as part of the Sembawang-Yishun Bus Package.
Modifications
SMB5888H had its original Aesys Libra Electronic Display Signs (EDS) replaced with conventional Mobitec MobiLED units in May 2016, in standardisation with the production batch MAN A95 buses.

A further purchase of sixteen Production Batch MAN A95 buses was initiated by SMRT Buses to increase its double-decker bus fleet, and in part due to the satisfactory trial of SMB5888H. These buses were registered between 31 August 2015 and 30 November 2015 as SMB5889E – SMB5904U, in numerical continuation after the demonstrator unit.

The Production Batch buses featured aesthetic changes such as a redesigned front and rear, including the addition of daylight running LEDs below the headlights, and a rearrangement of various components like the battery box and fuel tank.
These buses feature Mobitec MobiLED electronic display units similar to many other SMRT buses, along with tree guards on the upper deck, and Vogelsitze System 750/3 seats standardised with the MAN A22, MAN A24 and Enviro500 buses. The first unit, SMB5889E, was registered on 31 August 2015.
The battery box is now housed below the bus driver’s compartment seat, like the MAN A22 buses, instead of below the staircase on SMB5888H. The fuel tank has also been moved from the rear axle to the staircase area.
Revenue Service
Allocated to Kranji Bus Depot, SMB5889E made its revenue service debut on Monday, 7 September 2015, appearing on Express Service 868. Following this, it was deployed on Service 700 on Tuesday, 8 September 2015.
The first MAN A95 production batch buses (SMB5890A & SMB5891Y) were registered on 12 Oct 2015. These two buses made their revenue service debut on Thursday, 16 October 2015, on Services 188 and 190. These were followed by the remainder of the MAN A95 production batch.

As part of the Bus Contracting Model, a further purchase of sixty (60) more MAN A95 buses was purchased by the Land Transport Authority (LTA). These buses were registered between 14 April 2016 to 19 August 2016 as SG5740C – SG5799J, the first SG-plated MAN A95 buses.

These buses feature the exact same technical specifications as their SMRT counterparts, but without tree guards on the upper deck. Buses registered SG5790H onward are equipped with USB Charging Ports.
At launch, all Batch 2 MAN A95 buses were leased to SMRT Buses for revenue service operations, to make up for the shortfall of double-deck buses after BSEP-registered Enviro500 buses were absorbed into the BCM bus pool and subsequently transferred to Tower Transit.

To further increase the Bus Contracting Model bus pool, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) purchased a further 122 more MAN A95 buses. These buses were registered as SG2017C, SG5800M – SG5920A from 2 February 2017, with registration completed on 27 December 2017.
Also delivered with this batch is SG2017C, which commemorates the conclusion of the 5-year Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) initiated in 2012. It is the 1000th bus to be delivered under the BSEP, as well as the first Euro VI Diesel Public bus in Singapore.

The exterior styling of the bus bears new styling elements, most notably the large grey stripe on both sides of the bus. The bus also adopted modifications to the head and rear design, such as larger headlights and a brand-new rear design. A similar face-lifted design was used on LTA’s prototype MAN Lion’s City DD Mock-Up, which was first showcased in March 2016. Buses registered after SG5835M received a modified rear design.
The interior of the bus is very similar to the Batch 2 buses, but with plastic covers over USB Charging Ports, preventing the accumulation of dust and minimising the risk of accidental damage.
The first two units from this batch, SG5800M & SG5801K, were registered on 2 February 2017 and leased to SMRT Buses upon registration. On the evening of 14 February 2017, the first two units of the Batch 3 MAN A95 (SG5800M and SG5801K) buses made their revenue service debut on Bus Service 190 and Bus Service 972 respectively.
SBS Transit received its first MAN A95 bus registered as SG5835M on 20 July 2017. The bus features an automatic wheelchair ramp at the rear door. The RT1 Dual Telescopic Ramp is supplied by Spanish company Masats (who also supplies the door systems for the MAN A95 buses) and is electrically operated. Go-Ahead Singapore also began leasing MAN A95 buses in January 2018.

Euro VI Specification
Singapore adopted the Euro 6 (or Euro VI) standards for all new diesel vehicles registered in Singapore from 1 January 2018, representing the latest in emission standards. As such, new buses which were registered from 2018 had to comply with the more stringent emission standards.
Euro VI Unit: SG2017C

SG2017C’s unique registration plate commemorates the conclusion of the 5-year Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP) initiated in 2012. It is the 1000th bus to be delivered under the BSEP, as well as the first Euro VI Diesel bus in Singapore. On 30 November 2017, SG2017C, was registered and leased to SBS Transit.

At launch, the bus was decorated with a unique advert wrap commemorating milestones achieved during the 5-year Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP). While appearing similar to normal MAN A95 buses, it is distinguished by a ‘Euro 6’ badge near the front entrance door.
Euro 6 Batch 1 — ​MAN A95 (Lion’s City DD) — SG5921Y – SG5998B, SG6000Z – SG6171M

As part of the Bus Contracting Model, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is has initiated further purchases of 250 MAN A95 buses as part of Contract PT337. These buses are of the Euro VI specification and are bodied by Gemilang Coachworks with the facelifted MAN Lion’s City DD bodywork. In compliance with new LTA specifications, buses are equipped with Passenger Information Display Systems (PIDS) and two wheelchair bays.
The first of these buses were registered SG5921Y – SG5926J on 22 May 2018 and leased to SBS Transit. All six buses made their revenue service debut on 27 May 2018, operating on Service 851e.

In 2018, ST Engineering Land Systems Ltd. was awarded the tender (PT322) for Euro 6 Double Deck Diesel Buses (111 units).
Registration for this batch of buses commenced in March 2020.

In 2019, ST Engineering Land Systems Ltd. was awarded the tender (PT342) for 3-Door Euro 6 Double Deck Diesel Buses (50 units). This is the sixth batch of MAN A95 (or MAN ND323F) buses supplied for Singapore’s public bus industry.
The first unit entered service on 28 January 2021 with Go-Ahead Singapore, operating on Bus Service 83.

A prototype MAN A95 in Lush Green made its debut at LTA’s Our Bus Journey Carnival at Ngee Ann City. The bus is one of two concept buses commissioned by LTA to provide the public with a glimpse of how buses would look in the future, the other being an Alexander Dennis Enviro500 MMC (2015 Facelift).
The concept bus features three doors and two staircases, with new features such as seats with headrests, USB charging ports, stylish interior lighting and a Passenger Information Display. For more information, visit the MAN Lion’s City DD L Mock-up Bus article.
From 13 March 2017, the bus embarked on revenue service trials on Bus Service 143, operated by Tower Transit Singapore. Main Article:Â MAN A95 bus models launched by Knackstop
On 21 June 2017, Knackstop launched the “Singapore Bus Model”, featuring a Lush Green MAN A95 bus. Marketed as the “Singapore Bus Model”, the bus is decorated with the Lush Green livery and SG<3BUS decals, but without any operator logo.
Knackstop, a retail arm set up by the Land Transport Authority (LTA), sells a collection of public transport-inspired keepsakes and souvenirs. The “Singapore Bus Model” is its first die-cast bus model to be put on sale, retailing at $92.
Subsequently, a MAN A95 (Euro 6) bus model was launched by Knackstop on 12 December 2020.

Give LTA a reason, why they should?
Fyi, SLBP have a ridiculously huge amount of spare DD, and they did not have any NWAB. Not a single one.
On the other hand,
AMDEP/SEDEP: I am not sure why MAN was given as SEDEP package when there are plenty of BSEP batch 4 volvos. Shld have standardised to volvo and merc for SBST side.
HGDEP: Ridiculously too much SD, but only 6 spare DDs.
BNDEP: Generally gets all the new buses, even when the depot is overcrowded.
Yes, Should not give BNDEP any more new buses. I have observed that always there a new batch vehicles, BNDEP sure will get all fleet changed, and those old DDs will be transferred to either BBDEP or SLBP. Why the west always get old buses from BNDEP? SBST always pester the EAST area with new busses, especially Tampines area
Now BN(East area) has most of the spare DD compare to other depot. Generally, BBDEP and HGDEP (West District) need more DD. Why must LTA deplpyed so many DD to east instead? Is east area favorable to West

BNDEP have the most number of MAN A95. Most of their Old CDGE were transfer to SLBP

This is the first time that the SMRT MAN A95 ND363F started service on feeder 308 under Government Contracting Model from Bulim Bus Depot (BUDEP), and the registration plate is SG5746L with Mobitec MobiLED EDS of.
The EDS is wrongly pressed by the BC and so far there is no confirmation service 308 using DD.The Sg plate MAN A95s is exclusively for SMRT usage and possibly the future GCM Operators.I have a feeling SMRT will use it first when they start parking at Loyang and to replace the Mark II bendy buses.
