3-Door Alexander Dennis Enviro500 buses launched on Service 969 & 969A

The Alexander Dennis Enviro500 3-Door bus has been launched recently on Tower Transit Bus Services 965, 969 & 969A in April 2022.

50 units of the Alexander Dennis Enviro500 (3 Door) double-deck bus, configured with three doors and two staircases for smoother boarding and alighting, has been procured by the Land Transport Authority in April 2019, alongside 50 3-door MAN A95 (Euro 6) buses.

All units completed registration in January 2022, with SBS Transit, Tower Transit & SMRT Buses operating 25, 20 & 5 buses respectively.

These buses are the first to feature a double glass-staircase design on both front and rear staircases, as visible on the right side of the bus.

Complementing the futuristic looks of the bus is a fully low-floor design on the lower-deck, making entering and exiting the bus very accessible.

These buses are the product of engineering efforts by Alexander Dennis Limited after the initial conception in 2016. The engine and drivetrain components had to be relocated to the right rear of the chassis in order for a full-low-floor design.

Registration of these buses began in September 2021, and these buses are currently with SBS Transit & SMRT Buses.

SBS Transit debut

SBS Transit launched its 3-Door Alexander Dennis Enviro500 buses on 26 October 2021, deployed on Bus Service 974.

Two buses were deployed, SG6344G & SG6347Z.

SG6347Z later was deployed on Service 974A at night, performing the 01:05 trip from Choa Chu Kang Ave 4 (Opp Choa Chu Kang Stn).

SMRT Buses debut & Breakdown

One unit (SG6349T) was deployed by SMRT Buses on Bus Service 190, with its first trip at about 1554hrs from Choa Chu Kang Int.

However, the bus broke down along Choa Chu Kang Drive towards Kampong Bahru Bus Terminal at about 1918hrs due to a fault with the middle door. The bus has since returned to service.

Tower Transit

Tower Transit was allocated several Alexander Dennis Enviro500 3-Door buses from December 2021 in which they were first deployed on Bus Services 854 & 854e during the morning peak hours and Service 857 during the evening peak hours on 30 December 2021.

Cannot really replace bendy buses but again useful for short to mid distance service with high alighting and boarding activities…To name a few like 17,20,28,31,45,60,69,181,222,291,293,302,324,334,804,806,807,811,900,901,911,912A/B,913,920,941,962,979,983 & 991.
LTA should consider order 100 more units of ADL and probably the new Scania fencer SD 12.2m with 3-doors before 2023 when the non-ICE buses rule kick off.

Service 974 is an extremely long bus route between Joo Koon and Bukit Panjang so if you really want to deploy the ADL 3 door bus onto this bus route, the first thing is to test the bus to determine whether the bus is suitable for long distance bus routes. If the bus is found to be suitable only for shorter bus routes in order not to overheat the engine, I suggest that withdrawal of the bus from this bus service is to be done. Deploy the MAN A95 Euro 6 buses onto the bus service instead. Many questions that I want to ask the LTA are: Why are none of these 3 door buses being deployed to bus services in the East? Why are these buses not been seen deployed to bus depots in the East where they can serve bus services with high volumes of passengers like bus services 72 & 293 in Tampines, 222 in Bedok etc? These bus services will be more suitable for these ADL 3-door buses instead. Since these 50 ADL 3-door buses are only deployed to SBS-Transit & SMRT Buses, they must be evenly distributed to the depots operated by the 2 bus companies. Don’t just deploy these buses to bus services in the West and neglect the bus services in other areas which really need these new buses. In this way, it will be fair to the bus services in every area of Singapore. Evenly distribution of the buses that the LTA has procured is the best solution for all bus services in Singapore & NOT just deploying the 3-door buses to bus services in the West. Other bus services or even depots will complain!

First, it is more than 12 metre bus.

Generally, bus drivers who drove ADL or MAN A95 3-door must be the one who had drove Superlong or bendy bus before.

I do really agree with you but 222 can’t do with it. The roads at Chai Chee are very narrow.but can do with 46

Hello, East area already have majority of new 3 Door buses. What talking u. Think about what u say ok. West area seriously need 3 door as well. Take a look at SG Wiki, Bedok North Depot has majority of new buses, and 90% of SBST ADL 3 Door are at Bedok North Depot.

My sensible logical thinking was right! When I first thought that the 3-Door ADL E500 buses would be launched on 26 October 2021, which is exactly 2 days from 39’s amendment. They really launched! Woohoo! Imagine last year when 114’s debut, the 2 days later the Yutong E12DD debut, which is on 27 October 2020.
