Further Bus Service Developments in Choa Chu Kang (1999 – Present)
In exchange for bus services in Sengkang, Punggol and Jalan Kayu after Singapore Bus Service (SBS) clinched the operating license for the North East Line (NEL), the Singapore government had requested the operator to transfer its bus services in Choa Chu Kang to Trans-Island Bus Services (TIBS) in 1999.
A total of 8 bus services were transferred in 3 phases, starting with Bus Service 190 on 25th July 1999. The remaining 7 Choa Chu Kang services would follow suit in the subsequent months, until the completion of the handover exercise in Dec 1999 with the offcial transfer of Bus Services 67, 172, 175 & 188. 2 other existing bus services from the interchange were already operated by TIBS prior to the transfer of interchange operations from SBS.
Choa Chu Kang Bus Interchange was relocated in 2018 to an interim site located next to Lot 1 Shoppers’ Mall, as the original bus interchange was slated to make way for the construction of the upcoming Jurong Region Line (JRL).
