The Interchange (2011 – 2020):
Jurong East Temporary Bus Interchange was a bus interchange located in the residential town of Jurong East, bordered by Jurong East MRT station and Jurong Gateway Road. Connecting with Jurong East MRT Station along the North South Line and East West Line, the interchange was a transport node for commuters heading in and out of residential estates within Jurong East, as well as the Penjuru and Toh Guan industrial areas, allowing for convenient transfers between the rail network and the many bus services at the interchange.
The Jurong East Temporary Interchange was opened on 17th December 2011. The interchange had a single vehicular concourse area with an entrance along Jurong Gateway Road, and an exit leading to a signalized junction with Jurong Gateway Road and Gateway Link. The interchange concourse comprised a linear alighting berth and seven sawtooth berths. Pedestrian exits on all sides lead to adjacent developments. All berths at the interchange were wheelchair-accessible.
The temporary bus interchange, which opened in 2011, was relocated to a new site south of the existing temporary interchange on 6 December 2020. This new (second) temporary interchange will facilitate the demolishing of the current interchange to make way for the Jurong Region Line and a future Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) within the MoT-LTA integrated complex, slated for completion ‘after 2020’. The JRL station is scheduled to open in 2027.
History (1985 – 2011):
Jurong East Bus Interchange opened on Sunday, 30th June 1985, located at 155 Jurong East Street 13 and opposite CPF Jurong Building (northwest of Jurong East MRT station). The airy and spacious interchange housed many bus services were transferred from Teban Gardens Bus Terminal and several which were rerouted from Jurong Bus Interchange. Apart from benefiting commuters living in Jurong East or working in nearby industrial areas, the interchange also catered to cross-border commuters taking buses to Malaysia, via the Second Link.
In the 2000s, initial concept plans released for the Jurong Lake District revealed plans for a new Integrated Transport Hub at Jurong East. Located at the existing site of Jurong East Bus Interchange and underneath the MRT tracks, it would form part of an integrated commercial and transport development surrounding Jurong East MRT Station.
These plans were released as surrounding plots of land were being tendered out to private developers. The construction of Jurong East Temporary Bus Interchange (Reference No.: VT330) was awarded at a sum of S$5.98 million in February 2011. Jurong West Street 12, which formerly passed underneath Jurong East MRT Station, was expunged in tandem with redevelopment works.
On 17 December 2011, Jurong East Interchange was closed and operations shifted to the nearby Jurong East Temporary Interchange, located west of the MRT station and opposite the shopping mall JCube.
Post Closure
After the closure of Jurong East Temporary Bus Interchange on 6 December 2020, the former alighting berth is temporary retained as a sheltered walkway between Jurong East MRT and Jurong Gateway Road. In addition, a portion of the old bus park was temporarily used for the parking of excess / spare buses from the relocated Jurong East Bus Interchange.
Demolition works started in late January 2021.

Now on the MRT train in between Jurong East and Chinese Garden. I just saw the new bus interchange. I initially saw one SBS Transit double decker bus entering the new bus interchange, and one Tower Transit single decker bus driving out of the new bus interchange. And then, I saw about five single decker buses with Tower Transit logo at the bus park in the new bus interchange. As the train departs Jurong East, I saw that there is already a bus-priority lane created for buses to enter the new bus interchange.
If the new bus interchange is opening during the June school holidays, this is not what you would expect on 16 March 2020.
Nonetheless, the March school holiday is this week.
I expect an April opening. By then, the overhead bridge connecting the new bus interchange to MRT Jurong East station should be completed.
From the looks of it, it is very obvious when the Jurong East Second Temporary Bus Interchange will open: March school holidays. Probably at the first Sunday of it, as Sunday got the least people working, in order to give the system one week to adjust at the new location.
I don’t think so. If buses from TTS are returning to LTA storage, then it’s a definite answer that TTS has excess buses.
Besides that, during the initial BCM handover back in 2015, TTS took ALOT of BSEP citaro and BSEP B9TLs from SBST, throwing the old buses (Scania and CDGE) out to other depots on other services. Kinda is fair that LTA is reimbursing new buses to SBST. Way too much old rolling stock.
And saying about the lack of USB ports and PIDS, many other services are lacking too. But, in the west area, you would also have SMRT buses providing such features. To say LTA neglecting the west is just plain absurd.
False, it’s TTS that wants to maximise their bus fleet so much that they refuse to take in new buses until the recent intake of 3 Yutong E12 buses.
The second Jurong East Temporary Bus Interchange will be the first bus interchange that is began by a bus operator that is not SBS Transit or SMRT.
U mean first Bus interchange? that owned SBS in past
I think TTS should need more new buses this year, as despite they are stuck with only 4 types of buses (Enviro 500, MAN A22 Euro 5, Citaro and B9TL) since 2017 and has never changed. The buses don’t have USB Charging ports and Passenger information. It doesn’t have new buses since the introduction of service 974 in 2018. I think the West is lacking of better bus rides.
It never had any new buses (excluding 5999Z trial) until the recent intake of the Yutong electric buses.
