Introduction:
Queenstown is a residential estate located in the south-western region of Singapore, spanning from Clementi Road to Alexandra Road. It has been served by numerous trunk services along Commonwealth Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue West, Queensway and Alexandra Road since its development, which continue to cater to several residential neighbourhoods located sparsely across the area today.
While there is no specific town centre in Queenstown due to its vast boundary, Buona Vista Bus Terminal and Ghim Moh Bus Terminal serve as the regional transport hubs for bus services in the housing estate since 1982 & 1977 respectively.

Bus Services in Queenstown (since 1971):
As Singapore’s 1st satellite town that was first developed by the Singapore Improvement Trust (SIT) in the 1950s, Queenstown was primarily served by long distance trunk services along Alexandra Road and Queensway. After the major bus network reorganisation exercise in 1971, a roadside terminus was established along the newly-opened Commonwealth Avenue, catering to multiple reorganised trunk services from the eastern, central and north-eastern regions of Singapore.
Unlike other housing estates, no bus interchange has been formally planned to serve the sparsely located neighbourhoods in Queenstown by the Singapore Bus Service (SBS), likely owing to its close proximity to the Central Business District (CBD). However, a bus interchange was built in neighbouring Bukit Merah New Town under the Telok Blangah Bus Plan in 1980, which was frequented by Queenstown residents as the nearest hub to transfer to other bus services prior to the opening of the East West Line (EWL) in 1988.
On 7th March 1977, Ghim Moh Bus Terminal was opened as the 2nd roadside terminus for Queenstown along Ghim Moh Road, providing residents of the small Ghim Moh housing estate with more convenient access to other parts of the island. 2 existing bus services from Commonwealth Avenue Bus Terminal were gradually extended to this new terminus, connecting to the City areas of Orchard Road and Robinson Road respectively.
To facilitate the expansion of North Buona Vista Road by the Public Works Department (PWD), as well as redevelopment of new residential blocks by the Housing and Development Board (HDB), the roadside bus terminus along Commonwealth Avenue was relocated to the new Buona Vista Bus Terminal on 27th May 1982, with all 12 existing bus services relocated to the new terminus.

Future Bus Service Developments in Queenstown (1982 – Present)
While there were initial plans for Ghim Moh Bus Terminal to be merged with the nearby Buona Vista Bus Terminal in the 1980s, these proposals ultimately never materialised due to feedback from residents of Ghim Moh estate, who prefer direct bus connections to other parts of Singapore.
In 2023, the turnaround point for buses at Ghim Moh Bus Terminal was relocated north to a new interim location off Mount Sinai Road to facilitate the development of new Build-To-Order (BTO) housing projects in Ghim Moh.
