Further Bus Service Developments in Ang Mo Kio (1987 – Present)
In conjunction with the opening of Yio Chu Kang MRT station, the Yio Chu Kang Bus Terminal was constructed at the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 and Avenue 8 in 1987, which catered to additional bus services that were either amended or introduced to serve Ang Mo Kio New Town, as the Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange was running out of capacity to handle more bus services at the time. This terminal was subsequently upgraded to a bus interchange in 2013, with further retrofitting works to upgrade the passenger concourse and boarding/alighting berths completed by 2019.
In 2002, the former Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange was closed and demolished to make way for Ang Mo Kio Hub, an integrated retail development for Ang Mo Kio residents. The Ang Mo Kio Temporary Bus Interchange, located further north along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, served as the central hub for Ang Mo Kio New Town for several years, before the completion of the Integrated Transport Hub (ITH) in 2007.
